significant changes. Indian Railways, through IRCTC, is implementing new rules aimed at
enhancing transparency, curbing malpractices, and ensuring that genuine passengers have a

Key Changes You Need to Know
Here's a breakdown of the crucial modifications coming to the Tatkal ticket booking process:
1. Mandatory Aadhaar Authentication for Online Bookings (Effective
July 1, 2025)
Starting July 1, 2025, online Tatkal tickets booked through the IRCTC website or its mobile app
will only be accessible to users who have successfully linked and authenticated their IRCTC
user profile with their Aadhaar number.
2. Aadhaar-Based OTP Verification (Effective July 15, 2025)
An additional layer of security will be introduced from July 15, 2025. For all online Tatkal
bookings, an Aadhaar-based One-Time Password (OTP) verification will become mandatory.
This means that after selecting your journey details and passengers, an OTP will be sent to the
mobile number linked with your Aadhaar, which you'll need to enter to complete the booking.
3. OTP Verification for Counter & Agent Bookings (Effective July 15,
2025)
The enhanced verification isn't limited to online bookings. From July 15, 2025, Tatkal tickets
booked at computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters or through authorized
railway agents will also require an OTP verification. The OTP will be sent to the mobile number
provided by the user at the time of booking, adding a crucial layer of security and authentication for offline transactions.
4. Restrictions on Authorized Agents During Peak Hours
To level the playing field for general passengers, Indian Railways has imposed strict time
restrictions on authorized ticketing agents. Under the new rule, agents will not be permitted to
book opening-day Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the booking window.
● For AC classes: Agents cannot book tickets between 10:00 AM and 10:30 AM.
● For Non-AC classes: Agents cannot book tickets between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM.
This measure aims to prevent bulk bookings by agents during the critical initial rush, thereby
increasing the chances for individual travelers to secure tickets.
What Passengers Need to Do
To ensure a smooth Tatkal booking experience once these new rules come into effect,
passengers are advised to:
● Link Aadhaar to IRCTC Account: If you plan to book Tatkal tickets online, ensure your
Aadhaar number is linked and verified with your IRCTC user profile well in advance.
● Update Mobile Number: Make sure the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar is current
and accessible, as OTPs will be sent to this number for verification.
● Be Prepared: Familiarize yourself with the new timings and authentication steps.
